Marcel is one of the most talented young artists that we see in these last years. He comes from Barcelona and he draw and draw and draw a lot. He finished his degree in Fine Arts few time ago and now he’s working as a poster and t-shirt artist. Also he draw comics for fanzines like Pandora’s Box or Super Franky Cola. Marcel es uno de los más talentosos jovenes artistas que hemos visto en los últimos años. Es de Barcelona y dibuja y dibuja y dibuja un montón. Terminó su licenciatura en Bellas Artes hace poco y ahora está trabajando como artista de posters y camisetas. También dibuja para fanzines como el Pandora’s Box o el Super Franky Cola. Why do you started to read and draw comics?

To read it, really because they give me a lot of fun, and was unquestionable intertia of begin from little to look cartoons on TV. Then, drawing it was a question of time. At 5 years old I already did draw one page comics, with a personal character, Roc the Cat, at the style of the short comics that I read on the magazines like “Mortadelo” or “Cavall Fort” in catalonian.

¿Por qué comenzaste a leer y a dibujar comics?

A leerlos, realmente porque me divertían mucho, y fue inercia incuestionable de empezar de pequño a mirar dibujos animados por la tele. Luego, dibujarlo ya fue cuestión de tiempo. A los 5 años ya dibujaba historietas cortas de una página, con un personaje propio, Roc el Gato, al estilo de los cómics cortos que yo leía en las revistas de estilo “Mortadelo” o “Cavall Fort” en catalán.

What kind of comics did you read at that time and what ones do you read actually?

When I started, I was abducted by Mort & Phil and other Bruguera titles and similars, specially the Ibáñez, Vázquez and Cera comics. You can blame my father for my growing hobbie for Astérix and Titín, and my mother for Mafalda. Then, in my adolescence I discovered Dragon Ball and, by luck, a whole manga phenomenon, and I started to read mangas (Dragon Ball, Slayer, Dr. Slump, Rurouni Kenshin…). Forward I discovered finally seinen manga (actually I’m a totally adict to Urasawa and Inoue), the european comic (with titles like The Third Testament, Rapaces and, of course, Blacksad or Peter Pan by Loisel) and the american (fascinated for Runaways and Batman, and later reader of X-Men or Spiderman). A bit of all, as you can see, and I think that, some more, some less, all have left a mark before on my way of telling and drawing, a thint that I love it.

¿Qué comics leías entonces y cuales lees actualmente?

Cuando empecé, me absorbió Mortadelo y otros títulos de Bruguera y similares, especialmente los cómics de Ibáñez, Vázquez y Cera. Y podéis culpar a mi padre de mi creciente afición a Astérix y a Tintín, y a mi madre por Mafalda. Después, en la adolescencia descubrí Dragon Ball, y de refilón, todo el fenómeno manga, y me enganché a devorar títulos (Dragon Ball, Slayers, Dr. Slump, Rurouni Kenshin…). Más adelante decubrí finalmente el seinen manga (actualmente soy totalmente adicto a Urasawa y Inoue), el cómic europeo (con títulos como El Tercer Testamente, Rapaces, y por supuesto Blacksad o Peter Pan de Loisel) y el americano (fascinado por Runaways y Batman, y lector tardío de X-Men o Spiderman). En fin, un poco de todo, como se puede ver, y creo que, algunos más, algunos menos, todos han dejado huella después en mi forma de narra y dibujar, cosa que me encanta.

How did you define your way of making comics?

I guess that intuitive, at the big messure I was autodidact and I’ve moved by essay and error, and for observation from my favourite authors. Also I defined myself like “controled dirty”, that basically means that I’m very bad with the neatness, but I’ve learned to use the inking and the colouring…over all because I not achived eradicate it, he he…

¿Cómo definirías tu manera de hacer comics?

Supongo que intuitiva, ya que en gran medida, he sido autodidacta y me he movido por pueba y error, y por observación de mis autores favoritos. También me definiría como “sucio controlado”, que significa básicamente que soy muy malo con la pulcritud, pero que lo he aprendido a usar a mi favor en el entintado y en el coloreado… sobretodo porque no conseguí erradicarlo, jeje…

What’s your opinion about the European Fanzine Project?

I love it. It’s a new initiative inside about what the fanzine is (at least inside what I know), that pretends create something more bigger and with more difussion, but with the same fanzine spirit that ever. I guess that it will talk by itself the fact that, when I see myself excedeed lately by the deliveries for different fanzines, I said that I couldn’t deliver at time…to all, minus for this. I hope that this won’t be the last time that something like this is done!

¿Cual es tu opinión con respecto al Proyecto de Fanzine Europeo?

Me encanta. Y me temo que no es peloteo. Es una iniciativa nueva dentro de lo que es el fanzine (al menos dentro de lo que yo sé), que pretende crear algo más grande y con más difusión, pero con el mismo espíritu que los fanzines de siempre. Supongo que hablará por sí solo el hecho de que, cuando me vi superado últimamente por las entregas de varios fanzines, dije que no podía entregar a tiempo… a todos, menos a este. ¡Espero que no sea la última vez que se hace algo así!

Németh is a hungarian girl that is studying Graphics in her 5th year in an Art Secondary School. Her goal of her life is to working the same thing in the future. As an graphic designer or an artist but, until then, she thinks that she have a long way to go and a lot of things to learn. Her main freetime activity is also the drawing. She likes drawing in manga style a lot. Usually she’s drawing sad or confusing things even she’s a happy optimistic type, because the art means the emotional satisfaction for her. Németh es una chica hungara que está estudiando Gráfico en su 5º año en una escuela de arte. Su meta en la vida es trabajar de una cosa similar en el futuro, como diseñadora gráfica o artista pero, hasta entonces, piensa que tiene un largo camino por delante y un montón de cosas que aprender. Su principal actividad en el tiempo libre es dibujar. Le gusta dibujar un montón en un estilo manga. Usualmente ella dibuja cosas tristes y confusas incluso siendo de un comportamiento feliz y optimista, porque el arte para ella es un medio emocionalmente satisfactorio para ella. Why do you started to read and draw comics?

I don’t really know ^^; I draw ever since i know my mind ^^ and since I liked mangas what I met on the internet It started to draw in manga style too.

Realmente no lo sé ^^ Dibujo desde que tengo uso de razón ^^ y desde que me ha gustado el manga que conocí a través de internet también he comenzado a dibujar en un estilo manga.

Mostly mangas ^^ I like shonen mangas and BL mangas.

Why do you started to read and draw comics?

I got into comics at a young age because my older brother introduced me to them. I love making up stories so I soon began drawing my own comics (though I never finished one as a child, haha.)

Empecé en esto de los comics desde muy joven debido a que mi hermano mayor me introdujo a ellos. Me encanta inventarme historias así que pronto comencé a dibujar mis propios comics (a pesar de no haber terminado ninguno cuando era pequeña, jaja).

What kind of comics did you read at that time and what comics do you read now?

The first comics I read were Tintin and the Donald Duck comic magazine, but also comic strips. My favourite comic strip was Garfield. Right now I read american comics like Batman.

¿Qué tipo de comics leías por aquel entonces y cuales lees ahora?

Los primeros comics que leí fueron los de Tintin y el Pato Donald, pero también leía tiras cómicas. Mi tira cómica favorita era Garfield. Ahora mismo leo comics americanos como Batman.

What are the comic authors that most influenced in your way of drawing comics?

I honestly can’t think of any names, there are so many artist I like, but non in particulair that really made a big impact on my own work. The reason why I like their work is probably because they are so different from mine.

 ¿Cuales son los autores que más te han influenciado en tu manera de dibujar comics?

Honestamente no puedo pensar en ningún nombre, hay muchos artistas que me gustan, pero ningun en particular que realmente haya causado un gran impacto en mi propio trabajo. La razón de por qué me gusta su trabajo es probablemente porque es diferente al mío.

How do you define your way of drawing comics?

That’s a tricky question, I can draw manga style but I also other styles of comics. I like to keep things intersting and challenging for myself.

Esa es una pregunta difícil, puedo dibujar en un estilo manga pero también en otros diferentes estilos de cómic. Me gusta matener los aspectos interesantes y ponerme a prueba a mí misma.

What’s your opinion about the European Fanzine Project?

I think it’s a great project and I would love to take part in it. I love the idea of introducing cultures and people from different EU countries to work on one book is fantastic and I’m really exciting about it.

Creo que es un gran proyecto y que me gustaría tomar parte en él. Me encanta la idea de introducir las cultras y la gente de diferentes países de la Unión Europea para trabajar en un único y fantástico libro y estoy realmente ilusionada con él.

Why did you start to read and draw comics?

I had always known that comics were there, but I became interested in them thanks to a television channel which put anime. There are many reasons why I started reading comics. They seemed cool, I spent days fantasizing and thinking about the characters in these stories. At one point, I began to draw, was a way to make my own these characters that I loved so much.

¿Por qué comenzaste a leer y a dibujar comics?

Siempre había sabido que los cómics estaban allí, pero me empecé a interesar por ellos gracias a un canal de televisión en el que ponían anime. Hay muchas razones por las que empecé a leer cómics. Me parecían guays, me pasaba días fantaseando y pensando en los personajes de esas historias. En un momento dado, empecé a dibujar, era una manera de hacer míos a esos personajes que tanto me gustaban.

What kind of comics did you read at that time and what comics do you read now?

I read and read above all manga. He calls attention to the detailed drawings and plot, in which a character is never all good or all bad. I started reading shojo and shonen. Currently, I read more seinen and yaoi, but I could never resist a good shonen.

¿Qué comics leías entonces y cuales lees actualmente?

Leí y leo sobre todo manga. Me llama la atención el dibujo detallista y la trama, en la que un personaje nunca es del todo bueno ni del todo malo. Empecé a leer shojo y shonen. Actualmente, leo más seinen y yaoi, aunque jamás he podido resistirme a un buen shonen.

What are the comic authors that most influenced in your way of drawing comics?

I can hardly see some kind of influence or similarity between my drawings and those of the great masters. I’d give a kidney to draw like Inoue Takehiko or Minekura Kazuya, but I think each person has their own style, which develops over time.

¿Qué autores te han influenciado más en tu manera de dibujar comics?

Me cuesta ver algún tipo de influencia o parecido entre mis dibujos y los de los grandes maestros. Daría un riñón por dibujar como Takehiko Inoue o como Kazuya Minekura, pero creo que cada persona tiene su propio estilo, que desarrolla con el tiempo.

How do you define your way of drawing comics?

It is an act of love. Haha, seriously. It’s something I do because I like it, no artistic pretensions or desire to impress anyone. I have an idea and try to transfer it to paper, with more or less successful. Most of the time I feel like I’m not sure what to do. Do not think it will never be professional, but when I have before me a comic done for me over and I can only think: “Hell yeah! I got it!”

¿Cómo definirías tu manera de hacer comics?

Es un acto de amor. Jaja, en serio. Es algo que hago porque me gusta, sin pretensiones artísticas ni deseos de impresionar a nadie. Se me ocurre una idea e intento trasladarla al papel, con más o menos éxito. La mayoría del tiempo siento que no sé muy bien qué hago. No creo que vaya a ser profesional nunca, pero cuando tengo delante un cómic acabado y hecho por mí sólo puedo pensar: “Hell yeah! ¡Lo he conseguido!”

What’s your opinion about the European Fanzine Project?

Sounds like a cool idea. A book with european authors and talk about cultural diversity is something that is interesting in a world that is becoming smaller. I have wanted to meet other artists and I hope to contribute something worthy of me.

Me parece una idea muy chula. Un libro con autores europeos y que hable de la diversidad cultural es algo que resulta interesante en un mundo que cada vez se hace más pequeño. Tengo ganas de conocer a los demás artistas y espero poder aportar algo digno por mi parte.

Rafanás is an autodidact draughtsman, one of those who was spending more time drawing on tables than attending at class. In the last 3 years has been publishing webcomics in a more or less regular way, improving by this way his style of drawing. He has published on paper in a pair of fanzine projects like the Cómics 2.0: Antología del Webcómic 2010 and the Weezine. Rafanás es un dibujante autodidacta, de esos que estaba más tiempo dibujando en las mesas que atendiendo en clase. En los últimos 3 años ha estado publicando de forma más o menos regular webcómics, mejorando de esta forma su estilo de dibujo. Ha publicado en papel en un par de proyectos de fanzines como por ejemplo el Cómics 2.0: Antología del Webcómic 2010 y el Weezine. Why did you start to read and draw comics?

The first comics I read were from when I had to wait my turn in the barber shop (yes, there was a time when I had hair * laughs *). Mainly Mort & Phil and some other magazine of El Pequeño País. Later, one summer I was fond of reading comics Super Lopez. But strangely they never drew on the world of comic book characters. At that time was also with game consoles, which has always been my favorite hobby, and drew both characters in video games as invented by me. The drawing always was to me the seasons. When in high school I went to draw (my scribbles notes were useful things, so I’ve done ^ ^ U). Then came another “dark age” where I walked away from the pencils. Right now I have more than 3 years in the world of webcomics, which has helped me, among other things, develop my drawing substantially.

¿Por qué comenzaste a leer y a dibujar comics?

Los primeros cómics que leí fueron de cuando me tocaba esperar mi turno en la peluquería (sí, hubo un tiempo en el que tuve pelo *risas*). Principalmente Mortadelo y alguna que otra revista de El Pequeño País. Más tarde, un verano me aficioné a leer cómics de Super López. Pero extrañamente nunca dibujé sobre éstos personajes del mundo del cómic. Por aquel entonces también estaba con las videoconsolas, que siempre ha sido mi afición predilecta, y dibujaba tanto personajes de videojuegos como inventados por mí.  Lo de dibujar siempre me fue por temporadas. Cuando estudiaba en el instituto volví a dibujar (mis apuntes eran más garabatos que cosas útiles, así me ha ido ^^U).  Luego vino otra “época oscura” donde me alejé de los lápices. Ahora mismo llevo más de 3 años en el mundo de los webcómics, lo cual me ha servido para, entre otras cosas, evolucionar mi dibujo sustancialmente.

What kind of comics do you read at that time and what comics do you read now?

As a child I started as many others with spanish comics. Mainly read Mort & Phil, Super Lopez and Asterix. In my puberty I could buy my own comics, and by influence of my friends began to like japanese manga. And thus far. I have a shelf full of manga artists such as Eiichiro Oda, Takehiko Inoue, Oh Great!, Masakazu Katsura, and so on. But I do not really averse to anything. Luckily in my circle of friends have hobbies too much disparate and read comic author, Garth Ennis works of Mark Millar, Frank Miller or Allan Moore.

De pequeño empecé como muchos otros con cómic español. Principalmente leía Mortadelo, Super López y Astérix. En mi pubertad ya pude comprarme mis propios cómics, y por influencia de mis amistades empezó a gustarme el manga japonés. Y así hasta ahora. Tengo la estantería repleta de mangakas, como Eiichiro Oda, Takehiko Inoue, Oh Great!, Masakazu Katsura, etc. Pero en realidad no le hago ascos a nada. Por suerte en mi círculo de amigos tenemos aficiones dispares y leo también mucho cómic de autor, como obras de Garth Ennis, Mark Millar, Frank Miller o Allan Moore.

What are the comic authors that most influenced in your way of drawing comics?

I always liked the way you draw Nacho Fernandez (what a coincidence) and influenced me greatly in my time in high school. Currently I would say my influences are of direct beam, highlighting Kyo Hatsuki or Mine Yoshizaki. Though actually finished drawing a mixture of styles, mostly comic caricatures. I never liked to pigeonhole into a specific genre.

¿Qué autores te han influenciado más en tu manera de dibujar comics?

Siempre me gustó la forma de dibujar de Nacho Fernández (qué casualidad) y me influenciaba mucho en mis tiempos de instituto. Actualmente diría que mis influencias más directas son de origen manga, destacando Mine Yoshizaki o Kyo Hatsuki. Aunque en realidad acabe dibujando una amalgama de estilos, principalmente caricaturas cómicas. Nunca me gustó encasillarme en un género específico.

How do you define your way of making comics?

With no training as such, more work in a way. At first he took my drawings by hand, with A4, HB pencils and markers calibrated. Some years ago I bought a graphics tablet and when I taught me to use it, it ended up to be my favorite tool. Nearly all the work I do in my digital, with a Wacom Intuos 4 M and Paint Tool SAI program. I recently doing some drawings in the traditional way, and I am in love with ink brushes. But if I get to choose … “Not without my tablet.”

¿Cómo definirías tu manera de hacer comics?

Al no tener una formación como tal, cada vez trabajo de una manera. Al principio hacía mis dibujos de forma manual, con A4, lápices HB y rotuladores calibrados. Desde hace unos años me compré una tableta gráfica y cuando me enseñé a usarla acabó siendo mi herramienta preferida. Actualmente casi todos mis trabajos los hago en digital, con una Wacom Intuos4 M y el programa Paint Tool SAI. Hace poco volví a hacer algunos dibujos de forma tradicional, y me he enamorado de los pinceles de tinta. Pero si me dan a elegir… “No sin mi tableta”.

What’s your opinion about the European Fanzine Project?

I am excited to be able to make a project like this. Will give pleasure to see authors from other countries with such different styles all together in one book. Apart from advertising that it can give. Too bad there’s so much Spanish author. Hopefully for the next point and have a lot more people to take out a yellow pages format fanzine * laughs *.

¿Cual es tu opinión con respecto al Proyecto de Fanzine Europeo?

Estoy muy ilusionado de que se pueda realizar un proyecto así. Va a dar gusto ver autores de otros países con estilos tan dispares todos juntos en un mismo libro. Aparte de la publicidad que pueda dar. Una pena que haya tanto autor español. Esperemos que para el siguiente se apunte mucha más gente y tengamos que sacar un fanzine formato páginas amarillas *risas*.

Why do you started to read and draw comics?

I’ve read them for pleasure ever since I first time discovered Garfield and The Moomins. Drawing started just recently because of a whim of mine: I felt I want to try out this art form that combines two great things together – words and images. I just felt I could tell a story much better by showing it instead of just writing. I’m still learning and just trying out different things with the media.

¿Por qué comenzaste a leer y a dibujar comics?

Los he leído por placer desde la primera vez que descubrí Garfield y Los Moomins. Empecé a dibujar recientemente debido a un capricho personal: sentí que quería probar este arte que combina dons grandes cosas juntas – palabras e imágenes. Sentí que podría contar historias mucho mejor que mostralas en su lugar mediante palabras. Todavía estoy aprendiendo y probando diferentes cosas con el medio.

What kind of comics did you read at that time and what comics do you read now?

Mainly I used to read only short strip comics but later on I’ve widened my appetite to very long graphic novels no matter what is their gender.

Principalmente solía leer solo tiras cómicas pero más tarde he ampliado mi apetito a novelas gráficas de gran extensión sin importar su género.

What are the comic authors that most influenced in your way of drawing comics?

Tove and Lars Jansson (their smart humor and pleasant, interesting characters), Art Spiegelman (the way he combines images and words is sublime), Juanjo Guarnido (wish I had his skills…I admire the art in Blacksad- series so much) and Kaoru Mori (the one and only mangaka whose details and social relationships between the characters are so well depicted that I can only be hungry for more).

¿Cuáles son los autores que más te han influenciado en tu manera de dibujar cómics?

Tove y Lars Jansson (su humor inteligente y placentero con personajes interesantes), Art Spiegelman (la manera en la que combina palabras y imágenes es sublime), Juanjo Guarnido (desería tener sus habilidades…admiro el arte de Blacksad – y los comics aún más) y Kaoru Mori (el único mangaka cuyos detalles y el cómo plasma las relaciones sociales entre sus personajes están tan bien representadas que siempre me deja con hambre de leer más de sus obras).

It’s a journey full of exploring, doing things I don’t usually do, and remembering to have fun with the things I do.

Why do you started to read and draw comics?

As a child, my uncle brought me from her job the “Gente Menuda”, comic supplement from ABC daily newspaper, I remember…and I plunged in the adventures of our spanish comics: Zipi & Zape, Mort & Phil, Capitán Trueno, etc. I remember that, how it was by installments, I did separate sleaves and then I bound it by stories, with staples and zeal…a disaster. From there I jumped to make my own cartoons, since child.

De pequeño, mi tía me traía de su trabajo los ”Gente menuda”, suplemento de tebeos del diario ABC, creo recordar… y me sumergía en las aventuras de nuestros tebeos españoles: Zipi y Zape, Mortadleo y Filemón, El capitán Trueno, etc. Recuerdo que, como iba por entregas, separaba las hojas y luego las encuadernaba por historias, con grapas y celo… un desastre. De ahí salté a hacer mis propias historietas, desde enano.

What comics do you read at that time and what do you read actually?

Then I read only national production, my brother had the collection of Dragon Ball and Asterix and so I started reading other things, until he came to me the world of Internet and bought and bought tons of comics, and have not stopped until today. Entonces leía sólo producción nacional, mi hermano tenía la colección de Dragon Ball y Astérix y comencé a leer otras cosas, hasta que llegó para mí el mundo de Internet y compré y compré toneladas de tebeos, y no he parado hasta hoy. Me sigue interesando mucho el tebeo de nuestro país, de cualquier género, pero producido por autores de nuestra tierra, pero no puedo resistirme a las maravillas de otros países. Es más fácil decir lo que no suelo comprar que decir lo que sí. Mi único vicio son los tebeos, y todas las semanas compro algo… lo que no suelo adquirir son cómics de Superhéroes, soy más de tebeos más sentidos y con mensaje, y de aventuras más creíbles, sin gente que vuele por el aire. Bueno, exceptuando a Superlópez, que mezcla las dos cosas.

What authors most influenced you in your way of drawing comics?

Actually, a little all. I’ve been taking something from every author that has caught my attention, either the way of doing kinetic lines, snack, or funds, and gradually changing to a personal form in order to create a unique style… I especially love the style of Jan 80 and the Franco-Belgian comics, with authors like Franquin or Peyo.

¿Qué autores te han influenciado más en tu manera de dibujar comics?

En realidad, un poco todos. He ido cogiendo algo de cada autor que me ha llamado la atención, bien sea la forma de hacer las líneas cinéticas, los bocadillos, o los fondos, y poco a poco cambiándolo a una forma personal para ir creando un estilo propio… sobre todo me gusta mucho el estilo de Jan de los 80 y el cómic franco-belga, con autores como Franquin o Peyo.

How did you define your way of making comics?

Is a fresh and free form of making comics. Now that every time more people use the new technologies for making it, I jumped to watercolours…use pencils very hard to be viewed by scanning, ink markers and calibrated with a kind of tipped Visel pilots of Japan, coloring with dyes and watercolors, quickly. Thus trying to convey and work around the precessing of each page and give it more life.

¿Cómo definirías tu manera de hacer comics?

Es una forma fresca y libre de hacer tebeos. Ahora que cada vez más la gente utiliza las nuevas tecnologías para crearlos, yo me salté a las acuarelas… utilizo lápices muy duros para que se vean al escanear, entinto con rotuladores calibrados y una especie de pilots con puntas viseladas de Japón, dando color con anilinas y acuarelas, de una manera rápida. De este modo intento transmitir todo el preceso y trabajo de cada página y dotarla de más vida.
What’s your opinion about the European Fanzine Project?

Sounds like a great idea, especially in these times. Bravo for the people who are organizing and the Youth House, because they’re giving opportunities to meet people be really good, because I have seen the collaborators work and…Mamma mia, what a crowd of genius!

¿Cual es tu opinión con respecto al Proyecto de Fanzine Europeo?

Me parece una idea estupenda, y más en estos tiempos que corren. Bravo por la gente que lo está organizando y por la Casa de Juventud, porque están dando oportunidades de darse a conocer a gente realmente buena, porque he visto a los colaboradores y…¡madre mía, qué genios!

Why did you start to read and draw comics?

I can’t give a definite reason as to why I started reading comics; I’ve always liked books as much as comics when it comes to media for storytelling and I still do until this day! I’ve always been more artistically inclined though, so I guess the visual part of graphic novels is what drew me towards them the most. Drawing comics was bound to happen sooner or later, as I would like to tell stories as much as read them. Not being a very skilled writer, I would resort to drawing to get my ideas across. Throw in some panels, speech bubbles and SFXs, BAM! Comics. Shoddily done mind you, but it’s a start, no?

¿Por qué comenzaste a leer y a dibujar comics?

No puedo dar una razón definida de por qué comencé a leer comics; Siempre me han gustado tanto los libros como los comics cuando vienen desde un medio como la narración de historias, ¡y todavía me gusta actualmente! Siempre he sido de un pensamiento artísticamente inclinado, así que supongo que la parte visual de las novelas gráficas es lo que más me atrajo. Dibujar comics tenía que suceder tarde o temprano, lo mismo que me gustaría contar historias tanto como leerlas. Sin ser una escritora muy hábil, me gustaría recurrir a la elaboración de mis ideas a través del cómic.

What kind of comics did you read at that time and what comics do you read now?

The earliest I remember were weekly published Donald Duck magazines, I’m pretty sure a lot of people born in the 90′s know which ones I’m referring to. We had a bunch of older Polish classics lying around the house too, “Tytus, Romek i A’Tomek” by H. J. Chmielewski and “Kajko i Kokosz” by J. Christa. Around middle school I started reading manga and my first was “Inuyasha”. Albeit compeling with the style of art and length of individual tomes, I never read past the first couple volumes. I did however pick up Full Metal Alchemist and am collecting it till this day, as it is still being printed in Poland. I viciously held onto the manga genre until my last year in highschool, when I started looking towards western titles more often then eastern ones. Nowadays I read anything that falls into my hands and has an appealing story and artstyle, both in life and online, as I started looking into Webcomics and OCT comics as well.

Los primeros que recuerdo fueron los magazines semanales del Pato Donald, estoy bastante segura de que a un montón de gente nacida en los 90 sabe a cuales me refiero. Teníamos un montón de viejos clásicos polacos rondando por casa también, “Tytus, Romek i A’Tomek” de H.J. Chmielewski y “Kajko i Kokosz” de J. Christa. Durante la secundaría comencé a leer manga y el primero fue “Inuyasha”. A pesar del irresistible estilo artístico y la duración de los tomos individuales, nunca pasé de leer los primeros volúmenes. Sin embargo comencé a leer Full Metal Alchemist y todavía la sigo coleccionando hoy en día, mientras se siga publicando en Polonia. Fuí fuertemente abducida por el género manga hasta el último año en la secundaria, cuando empecé a buscar títulos occidentales con mayor frecuencia que los orientales. Hoy en día, leo todo lo que cae en mis manos y tiene una historia y un estilo atractivos, tanto en la vida real como en internet, me puse a buscar en Webcomics y comics OCT también.

What are the comic authors that most influenced in your way of drawing comics?

I can’t give a definite answer for this one, as I don’t really know! I’m sure I might have unconsciously picked up certain elements by reading different titles, but I don’t think I can confidently point to a single author and say “yes, this is the one!”.

How do you define your way of drawing comics?

Developing! I have started to seriously draw comics since about a year ago, so I’m still learning and trying to find a way that will combine efficiency and effectiveness of execution. I have a general notion of what direction I’d like to take, but how will I get there? Time will tell! Time and lots of practice, certainly!

What’s your opinion about the European Fanzine Project?

The premise of this project is fantastic – an opportunity for young sequential artists from all around Europe to become a part of something bigger, show off their talents and promote their country in the same time! Honestly, what’s not to love?

Why do you start to read and draw comics?

The reason I don’t know, I do know is that I started when I was very tiny. I still preserve comics when I was 7 or 8 years (not even understand them, lol). I remember they gave me crayons and several drawing little things to keep me distracted. Well I was distracted! I loved to draw characters and go beyond the typical house draw the meadow and the sun shining. On reading, I guess that was influenced by my father very fond of reading comics since he was young but so was “Cimoc” magazine, “El Víbora” and “El Jueves”. And no, he doesn’t let me read those things, but he did fond me to the spanish comic, to “Mafalda” and “Garfield.” Although later also shared the existence of “Dragon Ball” with me.

¿Por qué comenzaste a leer y a dibujar comics?

El motivo no lo sé, lo que sí sé es que empecé cuando era muy pequeñita. Aún conservo cómics de cuando tenía 7 u 8 años (que ni siquiera los entiendo, jajaja). Recuerdo que me regalaban lápices de colores y cositas varias de dibujo para tenerme distraída. ¡Y bien distraída que estaba! Me encantaba dibujar personajes y ir más allá de dibujar la típica casita con la pradera y el sol brillando. Sobre leer, me imagino que fue por influencia de mi padre muy aficionado a la lectura del cómic desde que era joven aunque también lo era de la Revista Cimoc, del Víbora y del Jueves. Y no, no me dejaba leer esas cosas, pero sí que me aficinió al cómic español, a “Mafalda” y a “Garfield”. Aunque más adelante también compartió la existencia de “Dragon Ball” conmigo.

What you read comics you read them then and now?

I started reading “lifelong” spanish comics like “Rompetechos”, “13 Barnacle Street”, “Mort and Phil” but I also liked “Mafalda” (even though according to the author’s jokes could understand at that age, not with the subtlety that I do now), “Garfield”, “Heidi”, etc.. When I got bigger, I read and saw a lot of “Dragon Ball”, “Dungeons and Dragons”, “Asterix and Obelix”, “Dr. Slump” and so on. Later in puberty stage started my super manga sleeve thanks to the regional channel “3xl” and I swallowed series like “Yu Yu Hakusho”, “Detective Conan”, “Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne”, “Utena” and a large etc. Obviously, at that stage I was also regular buyer of all types of mangas, even Naruto and D. Gray Man when almost nobody knew him. I am currently reading manga but I’ve opened many horizons and expand on the small crowd that had by Wolverine and other Marvel characters but most of all I’ve become more open to European comics market (including Spanish authors included, of course, hehe).

¿Qué comics leías entonces y cuales lees actualmente?

Empecé leyendo cómics españoles de “los de toda la vida” como “El Rompetechos”, “13 rúe del percebe”, “Mortadelo y Filemón” aunque también me gustaba mucho “Mafalda” (y eso que según que chistes del autor no los podía entender con esa edad, no con la sutileza que los entiendo ahora), “Garfield”, “Heidi”,etc. Cuando me hice más grande, leía y veía mucho “Dragon Ball”, “Dragones y Mazmorras”, “Astérix y Obélix”, “Dr. Slump”,etc. Después en la pubertad empecé mi etapa super manga gracias al canal autonómico “3xl” y me tragaba series como “Yu Yu Hakusho”, “Detective Conan”, “Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne”, “Utena” y un gran etc. Evidentemente, en esa etapa también era compradora habitual de todo tipo de mangas, hasta de Naruto y D.Gray Man cuando casi nadie lo conocía. Actualmente sigo leyendo manga pero he abierto bastantes horizontes y he expandido un poco más la pequeña afición que tenía por Lobezno y otros personajes de Marvel pero sobretodo me he abierto más al mercado de cómic Europeo (entre ellos incluyo a autores españoles, como es lógico, jeje).

What authors have influenced you most in your way of drawing comics?

When I started my influence was the manga the anime “Azuki”, but later had influences from Gosho Aoyama, author of “Detective Conan”. Growing up I customize more my style and I do not really fixed a lot of authors. Well, I noticed how they had made ​​the illustrations, which use more types of angles in his comics, what kind of characters did … but not me and influenced his style itself. I recognize that I’m currently moving through the sandy fields of European comics but euromanga shooting (because my roots are wide and they will not cease to be, hehe) and my main influence are Matthew Guerrero, Barbucci and Canepa, Humberto Ramos (OK, this is not euromanga, is more cartoon and european has little but manga he really has one), Romita Jr (above all with Kick Ass), Ross Campbell and people from the Deviant Art community that also draws very well and are a wonderful influence, hehehehe.

¿Qué autores te han influenciado más en tu manera de dibujar comics?

Cuando empecé con el manga mi influencia fue el anime “Azuki”, pero posteriormente tuve influencies de Gosho Aoyama, autor de “Detective Conan”. Al crecer fui personalizando más mi estilo y la verdad es que no me fijaba mucho en los autores. Bueno, me fijaba en como habían realizado las ilustraciones, en que tipo de ángulos usaban más en sus cómics, que tipo de personajes hacían… pero no me influenciaba ya su estilo en sí. Actualmente reconozco que me estoy moviendo por los arenosos campos del cómic europeo pero más tirando a euromanga (porque mis raíces son manga y no lo van a dejar de ser, jeje) y mis principales influyentes son Mateo Guerrero, Barbucci y Canepa, Humberto Ramos (vale, este no es euromanga, es más cartoon y de Europeo tiene poco pero de manga sí que lo tiene), Romita Jr (sobrertodo con Kick Ass), Ross Campbell y gente de la comunidad de Deviantart que también dibuja muy bien y son una maravillosa influencia, jejeje.

How would you define your way of doing comics?

For my style of comics currently define it: “Hi, I’m a Metapod.” For those not quite in the world of Nintendo, Pokémon representing a cocoon which is then converted into a butterfly. My style now is well, not completely defined and is in constant change and evolution. All improvements and changes over the years but we have stages where more dramatic changes and giant steps (backward or forward, but we do). Anyway, leaving this boring internal analysis, say that in these times euromanga drawing. My idea is arrel in european comics unashamedly never have started with the manga (there are people who deny it, and don’t understand). And what comes out through effort and learning! The important thing is to draw, not obsessed with being “authentic self and have a great style” because you’ll be eat with potatoes.

¿Cómo definirías tu manera de hacer comics?

Pues actualmente mi estilo de cómic lo definiría así: “Hola, soy un Metapod”. Para los que no estén muy en el mundo de Nintendo, es un Pokémon que representa que es capullo que posteriormente se convierte en una mariposa. Mi estilo ahora mismo es así, no del todo definido y que está en un constante cambio y evolución. Todos mejoramos y cambiamos con los años pero tenemos etapas donde hacemos cambios más drásticos y pasos de gigante (hacia atrás o hacia adelante, pero los hacemos). Pero bueno, dejando este aburrido análisis interior, diría que en los tiempos que corren dibujo euromanga. Mi idea es arrelarme en el cómic europeo sin avergonzarme nunca de haber empezado con el manga (que hay gente que reniega de ello, y no lo entiendo). ¡Y que salga lo que salga a base de esfuerzo y de aprendizaje! Que lo importante es dibujar, no obsesionarse con “ser auténtico, propio y tener estilazo” porque se os comeran con patatitas.

What is your opinion on the Draft European Fanzine?

I think a fantastic initiative and even more because it intends to do at European level and uniting of all from the world of comics. The pity is that the “universal language” used is English and no other language has since but hey, look, it is difficult to handle another language from dominating the other artists to put extra yet, haha. I’d like to give fruit to something bigger and I succeeded. That the initiative reaches as far as possible and that around the world would be the best that could wait and I would like to happen, and well, hopefully sales success, but that is truly difficult. I encourage you to continue with projects of this type where if I can and if I am accepted, I will participate. Thanks =)

¿Cual es tu opinión con respecto al Proyecto de Fanzine Europeo?

Me parece una iniciativa fantástica y aún más porque se pretende hacer a nivel europeo y uniéndonos entre todos a partir del mundo del cómic. La lástima es que la “lengua universal” utilizada sea el inglés y que no se haya puesto otro idioma más pero bueno, a ver, ya es complicado manejar otro idioma a parte del que dominan los dibujantes como para poner otro extra todavía, jaja. Me gustaría que diera fruto a algo más grande y que tuviera éxito. Que la iniciativa llegue lo más lejos posibles y que de la vuelta al mundo sería lo mejor que podría esperar y que me gustaría que sucediera, y bueno, ojalá sea éxito de ventas, pero eso ya es sinceramente más difícil. Os animo a que sigáis con proyectos de este tipo en los que si puedo y si soy admitida, volveré a participar. Gracias =)

Why did you start to read and draw comics?

Hard question! I’ve been reading them since I learnt how to read (I believe Mickey Mouse was the first one); as to drawing them, left apart some comic strips done for fun in boring classes, I started just a few years ago. My biggest love has always been animation, so I focused mainly on it… Plus, I didn’t feel to hold a candle to something complex as the creation of a comic,  and I’m taking heart only now! We learn from our mistakes after all.

Perché hai iniziato a leggere e disegnare fumetti?

Domanda difficile! a leggerli fin da quando ho imparato a leggerli (credo Topolino il primo), quanto al disegnarli a parte sporadiche strisce autobiografiche fatte tra i banchi di scuola ho iniziato a disegnare fumetti abbastanza di recente! La mia grande passione è sempre stata l’animazione, perciò mi sono concentrata più che altro su quella… Inoltre non mi sono mai sentita all’altezza di creare qualcosa di complesso come un fumetto, e solo ora sto prendendo coraggio! Si impara dagli errori in fondo.

¿Por qué empezaste a leer y a dibujar comics?

¡Una pregunta difícil! He estado leyendo desde que aprendí a leer (creo que los comics de Mickey Mouse fueron los primero); en cuanto a dibujarlos, dejando de lado algunas tiras cómicas que hice por diversión en clases aburridas, empecé hace unos pocos años. Mi mayor pasión ha sido siempre la animación, así que me he centrado principalmente en ella…Además, nunca me he sentido preparada para algo tan complejo como la creación de un cómic,  y estoy tomando conciencia ahora! Todos aprendemos de nuestros errores después de todo.

What are the comic authors that most influenced in your way of drawing comics?

Frankly I have never asked this myself! I don’t think I have a reference author, not consciously at least… What inspired me very much at first was the unrivalled Lion King, my great love! But I’m still looking for my personal style… Speaking about comics I love Guarnido, not already a Disney animator for nothing!

Quali sono gli autori che hanno maggiormente influenzato nel tuo modo di disegnare fumetti?

Francamente non me lo sono mai chiesto! Non credo di avere un autore di riferimento, consciamente almeno… Ciò che mi ha ispirato di più inizialmente è stato di sicuro l’impareggiabile Re Leone, mio grande amore! Ma sono ancora in cerca di uno stile mio… Guardando al fumetto adoro Guarnido, non per niente già animatore Disney!

¿Cuales son los autores que más te han influenciado en tu manera de hacer comics?

¡Francamente nunca me había preguntado esto a mí misma! No creo que tenga un autor como referente, al menos no conscientemente…Lo que me inspiró mucho en un primer momento fue la película “El Rey León”, ¡mi gran amor! Pero todavía estoy buscando mi estilo personal…Hablando de cómics me encanta Guarnido, ¡no ha sido un animador de Disney por nada!

How do you define your way of drawing comics?

How many hard questions! I still don’t feel PRO enough to be able to describe my own style! Well, I’d say my way of drawing is “in constant becoming”! Still unaware of what direction it’s going to take…
